Baby Portraits
Due to the highly personalized nature of the work we create, we accept a limited number of assignments. Please schedule well in advance to ensure the best selection of dates and times. If you have a newborn and did not schedule prior to the birth, please inquire as I try to accommodate these sessions whenever possible.
A consultation is held before all sessions to discuss your vision. This helps facilitate a better portrait session by discussing your expectations and desires in advance.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to schedule a newborn session? Right Now! If you are pregnant and know you want a newborn session, please schedule your session as soon as you can. Although I make every effort to squeeze in last minute newborn requests, my schedule fills quickly. Once your session is in my schedule, you will be given priority for session scheduling once your baby arrives. If you baby is already born, please feel free to call or email me to inquire about availability as I do fit newborn's in whenever possible.
When Should I Call For The Actual Session? I ask that clients put me on their birth call list so we can schedule the session as soon as possible. This allows me to do any schedule juggling that may be necessary to make sure your session takes place within the first 2 weeks.
When Is The Best Time For Newborn Sessions To Take Place? The best time for a newborn session is within the first 12 days after birth. There are circumstances when your baby may have to be photographed later, but in general the best portraits are made as soon as possible. We want to capture those sweet and sleepy images that make you say "awwwww"
Where Will The Session Take Place? Sessions can be created in the comfort of your home or our warm and friendly studio. Scheduling a session in your home will allow you and your family to relax in the comfort of your surroundings. Older children can play while not in front of the camera and Mom & Dad can relax while we work with your baby.
How Long Will The Session Last? Newborn sessions are very unpredictable. The session could last anywhere between 90 minutes to 3 hours. During the session we always take breaks for feedings and cuddling as necessary. Please plan your schedule accordingly.
What kind of clothes work best? For newborn's alone, often all we need is a diaper. We want the focus the portraits on your child and not the clothing. For portraits including the family, remember the objective of your portrait... a beautiful sensitive portrait, which shows the relationship and personalities of each person in the portrait. For this reason, clothing should be kept simple. Solid colored garments always photograph best, as they are not distracting. Please try to avoid having anyone stand out in a much lighter or brighter garment. Work for balance, harmony, and color coordination. Long sleeves and pants are generally recommended for adults as bare arms and legs call attention to them and can overpower the face.
How and when do I see the portraits? To aid you in your selections, we will reserve a projection appointment for you approximately 2 weeks after the portrait creation. This will enable you to view the portraiture at an adequate size for facial expressions and detail. Our clients have told us how much they appreciate our help in selecting the images they will cherish for a lifetime.
